She is Deeply Rooted ~ Psalm 1:3

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

whatever they do prospers.

That person is you.

She is like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields fruits in its season and its leaf does not wither in all that she does she prospers. Psalm 1:3

That is so encouraging and sounds so beautiful, but we both know that’s not how everyday life feels. If only we felt like fruitful trees planted alongside a simple stream flowing beautifully down the path.

she is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season

Instead, maybe you feel like I do.

More like a tree with not enough limbs to handle all the kids’ needs, our husband’s needs, and the house needs. Our leaves are falling off in some places and still barely holding on in others.  The perfectly flowing stream we are supposedly planted along is overflowing with swift rushing water and we wonder when the tree, representing you and me, will be washed away, swept downstream as we just try to just keep our head above the water.

That’s how we really feel. But that’s not what our life is supposed to be like.

God’s Word tells us in Psalm 1:3 that ‘that person’, meaning you and me, is like a tree planted by the streams of water.

No matter how we “feel” the truth is that we are strong and deeply rooted. We are strong even when we feel weak because it is not you and I raising our children just trying to make it to the next day or make it to the next nap. It is Christ in us getting us through every day, every moment.

We can’t do it on our own and when we “feel” like we are about to be washed away by the swiftly rushing water that’s when we forget and start leaning on our own abilities and not give our worries to Him right then and there.

As soon as you feel like everything is going to fall apart…STOP!

Stop before you start yelling. Stop before you throw your hands up and tell yourself you aren’t good enough for this.

Give it all to God.

Let Him handle it for you because you ARE that deeply rooted, you are that beautiful and fruitful tree planted along a luxurious, calmly flowing stream.

…..”and its leaf does not wither in all that she does she prospers.” Psalm 1:3

like a tree planted by streams of water

What does it mean to prosper?

When I think of the word I think of being wealthy, well-to-do and financially successful. While that is part of the definition of the word, that’s not what God is referring to when He says, “in all that she does she prospers.”

His use of the word is in the form of a verb and not an adjective. A verb is an action word. An adjective is a descriptive word. He is not describing something about our character, He is telling us what we DO.

Prosper, as a verb, means improving or growing strong and healthy. As moms, we truly do prosper in all we do because we are improving and growing with God’s presence always right there with us, each and every hour of every day.

Our families are God’s perfect gift to us helping us to grow strong and healthy mentally, physically and more importantly spiritually. We don’t do it. HE does it. He promises us that!

Most of us would say we do not feel like we are prospering at all. I hear ya!

BUT…..You can and you will prosper in everything that you do. It doesn’t matter if you are a career driven businesswoman, a work-at-home mom, a homeschooling mom, a stay-at-home mom, a first-time mom or whatever combination of all of those you are.

In ALL that we do we prosper….because of GOD!

Not because of me. Not because of you. Because God created us to prosper.

He gave us the family we have as our good and perfect gift from Him. It is through them and everyday life challenges that we become “like a tree planted by the streams of water which yields fruits in its season and its leaf does not wither in all that she does she prospers.”

Be encouraged knowing God placed you exactly where you are. He gave us the most perfect gift our most unperfect family that is meant specifically for you and I. Go forward today knowing you are deeply rooted and cared for by God. No matter what.

Sometimes it is easy to focus on the challenges in life rather than the strength God gives us to overcome them. Thanks for the reminder that God has placed us exactly where He wants us at this point in time and that He is there with us.
